Ultraframe Cost Benefits

Posted on Tuesday, 06 November 2012 by admin in Ultraframe

The biggest cost benefit of an “ULTRAFRAME”® Pre Fabricated shed is the fact that ALL brackets are fully welded to the Frame, meaning that there are far less loose parts which can go missing, be supplied incorrectly & need to be bolted to the frame.

C Section sheds are low cost because they are simple for the steel manufacturer to produce on a steel roll forming machine but leave the erector with more work to do as all joining must be done with brackets, bolts, nuts & tek screws.

Checking Bill of Materials

For a C Section Shed if you are missing any brackets and parts from the long list of the main frame (for instance: Garage 50 parts, Large Shed 204 parts), then you may not be able to start erecting your shed until replacement parts are delivered.

With a Pacific Building “ULTRAFRAME”® Pre Fabricated shed if ALL of your Columns, Rafters & Mullions are there (for instance: Garage 14 parts, Large Shed 38 parts) then ALL of your Frame Brackets are there (they are ALL welded on). You are ready to start erecting!

No Missing Parts, No Delays, Build Right Away

  • 30 Minutes for a small shed.
  • 1 or 2 hours for a large shed.
  • Long list of building materials.
  • Missing any parts, you cannot erect until replacement parts are delivered.
  • 5 minutes for a small shed.
  • 10 minutes for a large shed.
  • Short list of building materials.
  • All Frame Brackets are welded on. You are ready to start erecting.

Who can check Bill of Materials?

You will need to have some shed knowledge or you may need your erector to check off, as there are many parts which are difficult to identify.

You alone can easily check off BOM for an“ULTRAFRAME”® shed. For the main frame you only need to identify Columns, Rafters and Mullions.

Erecting - Build faster with “ULTRAFRAME”®

Case studies:

Double Garage
C Section Shed“ULTRAFRAME”® Pre Fabricated Shed

A Double Garage takes the average shed erector 2 days to erect. The first day is spent bolting and tek screwing brackets to the columns and Rafters prior to standing frame. Some brackets are bolted to set positions on frame and others must be measured out for correct spacing. Then the erector must measure out hold down positions of column brackets and ensure all setbacks are correct.

Erector can begin standing frames immediately as“ULTRAFRAME”® is Pre Fabricated - ALL brackets are welded to frame. Main frame will take approx 20 minutes to stand. The average erector will take 4 to 8 hours to erect an “ULTRAFRAME”® Double Garage.

Industrial or Farm Shed - 20m x 48m x 6m

It takes the average shed erector 10 days to erect. The first day is spent bolting and tek screwing brackets to the columns and Rafters prior to standing frame. Some brackets are bolted to set positions on frame and others must be measured out for correct spacing.

The second day is spent cutting in Apex Braces and Knee Braces with an angle grinder. There are 7 Apex Braces and 14 Knee Braces in a shed this size.

This would equate to approximately 22m of angle grinding to cut these braces in. Then with a shed of this size extra temporary bracing must be added to the frame before it can be lifted into place with a crane.

C Section is very unstable over large spans until fully standing and cross braced. A spreader bream will also need to be hired to lift this frame because of the instability of the 20m frame when lifting. If not done correctly the frame will buckle and you will be purchasing a new frame.

Erector can begin standing frames immediately as“ULTRAFRAME”® is Pre Fabricated - ALL brackets are welded to frame. Main frame should be standing on day one.

“ULTRAFRAME”® is made of Structural RHS Steel which is rigid and easy to handle on large buildings. There are NO Knee or Apex Braces required. Once main frame is bolted together it can be lifted into place without the use of a spreader bar & extra bracing.

The average erector will save approximately 3 days building an “ULTRAFRAME”® Pre Fabricated shed of this size. This will not only save erecting costs.

You will save on scissor lift hire, crane hire, accommodation & meal costs if your job is in the country.
